I'm Dagmy. This is the whole story, from Cuba to my own suite in Coral Gables.
Since I was about eight years old, I've been fascinated by nails. My mum bought me my first polishes and I happily went round painting the whole neighbourhood's nails.
Over the years, that small passion grew up with me. While I was at university in Cuba, I started doing nails professionally to make a bit of extra money. I taught myself first, and later took a beauty course in Cuba to keep growing and refining my technique.
When I arrived in the United States, I began working in different salons, Menta y Canela among them. At the same time I kept training, and I did my nail technician programme at Transformation Beauty School, where I earned my licence to practise in Florida.
With a lot of effort and dedication I kept growing, and along the way I was lucky enough to find a friend, Yusy, I shared many salon years with. Together we decided to go independent, and we started out renting a table at Nails & Pearls. That was a big moment for me, because for the first time it felt like I was building something of my own.
In time, that small beginning brought me to where I am today: my own suite, and the birth of Guapa! Nail Studio — a project that is one of my great dreams, and one I'm still building with an enormous amount of love.
I know this isn't the end of my career, but barely the beginning of everything I dream of doing. Every client who trusts me is part of this journey and of the story I'm still writing.
Today, Guapa! is much more than a place to get your nails done. It's a space made with love, where I want every woman to feel comfortable, cared for, listened to and, above all, beautiful.
